Group Disability Income Insurance

Most of us insure our cars, homes, and health, but too many of us fail to protect our most important asset—our income. AAO-Endorsed Group Disability Income Insurance now comes with own occupation coverage, which helps ensure your paycheck is secure, even if an illness or injury keeps you from working. An enhanced own occupation plan, the policy helps to protect your income if you are disabled and unable to work as an orthodontist, even if you are working in another occupation.

Plan Overview

Highlights of the AAO-Endorsed Group Disability Income Insurance Plan include:

  • Wide range of coverage amounts: Choose any amount you need, from $500 to $15,000 per month in increments of $100
  • Benefit period: Disability benefits may be paid during a covered total disability up to age 67 (for disabilities beginning before age 66) and up to one year (for disabilities beginning at age 66 or older)
  • Future purchase option: Increase your coverage in the future—without medical underwriting—to help ensure your coverage keeps pace as your earnings grow
  • Residual benefits available: Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible to continue receiving a portion of your total disability benefit after you return to work
  • Own occupation definition of disability: Receive benefits if a covered illness or injury prevents you from performing the material and substantial duties of your own occupation as a specialist in orthodontics, even if you are working in an alternate occupation
